Exynos ModAP is Samsung’s first chip with on-die LTE integration

             Just yesterday Samsung’s Exynos division teased that it 
had something “exciting” in store for us. While we hoped this meant we’d
 see the official unveiling of the Note 4’s rumored Exynos 5433 CPU, it 
turns out that the company has instead outed a new quad-core SoC with 
integrated LTE.<br />

Dubbed ModAP, the SoC is the first from the company to offer on-die 
LTE integration, and is built on a 28nm HKMG process. The ModAP offers 
Cat-4 LTE and a built-in image signal provider capable of supporting an 
8MP sensor with 1080p video recording at 30fps.<br />

While it’s obvious based on the specs that the ModAP is might more 
for budget and mid-range devices than flagships like the upcoming Note 
4, on-die LTE integration is still a noteworthy accomplishment for 
Samsung and could help put it on a more even playing field with Qualcomm
 in the future.</div>

             After a recent @evleaks tip involving a “OnePlus One 
Tab” was later revealed to be nothing more than a hoax, we’re sure many 
of you are going to take this latest leak with an extra helping of salt.
 We know some of you are still eagerly awaiting your chance to pick up 
this year’s OnePlus One, but it appears the Chinese startup is already 
planning for its sequel.<br />

It’s not much to go on, but <a href="https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/487294701616508928" target="_blank">@evleaks revealed</a>
 an alleged codename for the upcoming OnePlus Two: Lettuce. According to
 @evleaks, the first was going by the codename Bacon and while we don’t 
have any information regarding specs or anything of that sort, we’re 
struggling to find ways OnePlus can upgrade the already stellar 
“flagship killer.”<br />

Be that as it may, smartphones launches take many months of planning 
so it really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that OnePlus could 
already be working on a sequel. It just seems odd given the current 
shape the OnePlus One is facing in terms of availability.<br />

             Rumors of the Sony Xperia Z3 have been spreading, with 
the latest coming from Vodafone Germany. The device’s appearance has not
 been unveiled until today, though, making this leak a little special. 
Today we bring you a set of images said to have the Xperia Z3 as the 
subject.<br />

While previous rumors made us expect the design to be different, we 
don’t see many changes in the design language here. Sony is known for 
its classic aesthetics, which is something their fans often praise. 
Aside from its looks, the prototype unit does seem to be quite a capable
 device so far.<br />

This would be the Chinese version with model number L55t, which makes
 sense knowing the Xperia Z2 is labeled as the L50t. Check out the 
gallery below to see the device in more detail. The pictures are not 
half bad, but we could always use better quality.<br />

Most specs continue to be a mystery, but from the photos we can tell 
it is running Android 4.4.4 on firmware build 23.0.G.0.98. It also seems
 like the device will have a 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, Adreno 
330 graphics and probably the same 20.7MP Exmor RS lens we have seen 
from both predecessors.<br />

It’s also important to note this is still a prototype, so design, 
specs and other aspects could still be subject to change. Of course, it 
may a bit early to be losing sleep over the Xperia Z3. After all, the 
Sony Xperia Z2 is an amazing smartphone and has yet to reach many 
markets.<br />

Not to mention, this are still rumors and we wouldn’t hold our breath
 on them just yet. We will definitely give you the details as soon as 
they become available, so stay tuned!<br />

Galaxy S4 LTE (GT-I9505) Receives Android L Experimental Port

Finally a Samsung phone is getting the taste of Android L. The 
Samsung Galaxy S4 is all set to get a working port of Android L soon as 
XDA member, <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4581600" target="_blank">ISF</a>,
 releases an experimental port of Android L for the Galaxy S4. At this 
time, the Android L port only installs perfectly and shows the Android L
 boot animation, nothing else.<br />

It’s safe to assume here that it’s going to take time for this Galaxy
 S4 Android L build to do more than just showing the boot animation. 
Right now, the developer is looking for help from the community to build
 a custom kernel for Android L for the Galaxy S4 GT-I9505. Plus, there 
are issues with some of the .lib files which need to be addressed. If 
you’re someone who understands this stuff, and would love to help, head 
over to <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-develop/port-android-l-0-1-kernel-t2822628" target="_blank">this development thread on XDA</a> to help <a href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4581600" target="_blank">ISF</a>.<br />

So far, only HTC One M7 and LG Optimus G are the two non-nexus 
devices that have received the Android L port. The Galaxy S4 is only 
going to be 3rd non-nexus device to get Android L.</div>

CyanogenMod 11 M9 update adds support for One M8 and Xperia Z2

             The CyanogenMod development team have just pushed out 
the latest M9 build for the custom KitKat ROM, M builds being the most 
stable versions of the ROM currently available. Along with various fixes
 and new features for existing users, the M9 update also brings support 
for a few new devices.<br />

The M9 build is the first stable (non-nightly) CyanogenMod 11 release
 available for the Sony Xperia Z2 (sirius), Xperia Z2 Tablet (castor), 
and the HTC One (M8).<br />

As well as additional devices, there are quite a few changes to take note of in the M9 update. Here is a copy of the changelog:<br />

             Just the other day we learned that Samsung will host its
 next Unpacked Event on September 3rd, just ahead of IFA’s official 
start. It’s pretty much guaranteed that the Note 4 will be announced 
that day (especially given the obvious hints in the teaser image above),
 but when can we expect to see it ship? We’ve heard more than one report
 claiming the turn around from announcement to release would be short, 
and now a tipster that reportedly works for Samsung may have shed a bit 
more light on to how short of a turn around we can expect.<br />

According to the tipster, Samsung notified him and other employees 
that there are two black out periods for time-off in September, the 3rd 
through the 5th (IFA announcement) and the 15th through the 28th (Note 
4’s release week). If this source proves correct, that means we may see 
the Note 4 arrive in a little less than two weeks after its 
announcement. While not nearly as impressive as HTC’s near-immediate 
launch of the M8, that’s still a pretty fast turn around and a bit 
faster than we’ve seen from Samsung in the past.<br />

Now it’s important to mention that we can’t confirm that the tipster 
does in fact work with Samsung, though the above image certainly lends a
 bit more credence to the claim. Either way, we’d take this report with a
 grain of salt for now. That said, the less-than-two-week turn around 
does fit with just about everything we’ve heard so far.<br />

             Today, the folks at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/hellomotohk/posts/449756381830949" target="_blank">HelloMotoHK</a>
 have posted a few side-by-side comparison shots of an alleged Moto X+1 
front panel (just the glass) alongside the current model Moto X. Not 
taking into account any extra size added by the phone’s new metal frame,
 what we’re seeing is a phone pretty close in size to the original, 
despite coming equipped with a larger 5.2-inch display. In fact, you’ll 
notice much of the added size actually has to do with the bottom cutout 
for a new front facing speaker than anything else.<br />

While it’s still unclear whether or not the Moto X+1 will actually 
feature stereo front facing speakers (like the HTC One M8), we’d be 
willing to bet they simply moved the rear mono speaker to the front of 
the device like they did on the Motorola Moto E. But, hey — anything is 
better than the rear facing speakers found on smartphones these days and
 we’d applaud Motorola for the effort either way.</div>

             Samsung knows the future of mobile relies on the 
interaction between multiple devices. Adding bluetooth speakers, 
wireless headsets, smartwatches and other accessories to the equation 
can only mean one thing – you need to charge more gadgets. Samsung’s 
latest USB cable may be ridiculously expensive at $39.99, but it is 
special in that it allows for charging 3 devices at once.<br />

Justifying this expense may be possible if you are a hardcore tech 
geek like us. There is no electricity outlet in my room that I am not 
using (and all have multipliers). I often find myself having to 
prioritize my devices, trying to choose which deserve a spot in my 
walls.<br />

The Samsung Multi-Charging Wall Charger will alleviate some of this 
strain and make it simpler to keep all our rechargeable devices handy.<br />

The cable splits into three microUSB heads. There is a bit of a 
downside, but it’s simply part of the charger’s nature. The package also
 includes a 2 amp wall charger, but its power is divided across whatever
 devices you have plugged in. This means it will charge one device at 2 
amps, two devices at 1 amp each and 3 devices at 667 mili amps each.<br />

Is this worth those $40 hard-earned dollars? There are many unknown 
brands offering similar charging alternatives, with multiple heads and 
even supporting different ports. These usually cost very cheap on 
Amazon, but you should also consider the quality of the cable.<br />

Samsung is a renown brand and it would be easy to deal with any 
incidents (like phone explosions) or returns/exchanges. You would 
definitely be paying for comfort, though. You can probably get much more
 than 3 good cables for the same price.<br />

             Sony’s new lineup of devices was just announced at IFA. 
These are all stunning products with great specs, a resistant build and 
premium performance. There is just no way to go wrong with any of them, 
but the most important factor is always the price.<br />

Are the new Z3 series smartphones worth what their price entails? 
Sony kept its mouth sealed at the IFA announcement, but bits of 
information are now coming from UK retailer Clove. As expected, both 
devices are priced according to their quality. This means they are not 
exactly affordable.<br />

Clove lists the <a href="http://www.clove.co.uk/sony-xperia-z3" target="_blank">Sony Xperia Z3 with a £525 price</a>, while the smaller <a href="http://www.clove.co.uk/sony-xperia-z3-compact" target="_blank">Xperia Z3 Compact goes for a more moderate price of £432</a> (both including VAT). This translates to roughly $858 and $707 USD, accordingly.<br />

Prices are always lower in the USA, so we can expect both smartphones to cost less on this side of the lake.<br />

             If you’re looking for the latest KitKat love on your 
older Xperia Z device(s), you’ll be happy to know that Sony is about to 
hook you up. Sony has now confirmed Android 4.4.4 is rolling out to the 
Xperia Z, Xperia Tablet Z, the ZL and the ZR.<br />

So what’s new here, aside from 4.4.4? In their official Twitter 
response, Sony mentions bug fixes, battery, wifi and email improvements.
 More specifically, Sony has also included a changelog for the Xperia Z:<br />

– Upgrade to Android 4.4.4<br />
– Better battery performance in some background applications<br />
– Email stability & performance enhanced<br />
– General improvements to MMS, Calendar, Wifi, Contacts & More<br />

The new update brings you up-to-date with the latest (fully released)
 version of Android, but it’s still missing quite a bit of the Xperia 
Z3’s upgraded experience. If you want to get a step closer to the Z3

             The Sony Xperia Z3 is special for many reasons. It has 
great specs, an awesome build quality and impressive resistance to the 
elements. There is one department where this device excels and goes 
unnoticed, though. It happens to have a magnificent screen, even if a 
5.2-inch 1080p IPS panel sounds as average as it gets.<br />

Much like megapixels don’t necessarily translate to better photos, 
the Sony Xperia Z3 doesn’t need 2K definition to make a good display. 
Sony is very careful with its screen technology. They offer vibrant 
colors and superior brightness, but what makes these panels special is 
that Sony manages to offer this vivid image without wasting battery.<br />

How do they do that? Sony engineer Takao Yagi takes it to the Sony 
Mobile blog to explain to us how this is accomplished. They manage to 
save battery while offering optimal brightness by taking 3 steps:<br />

– A new “local adaptive contrast” algorithm has been introduced to 
the Xperia Z3. It analyzes every single pixel and optimizes its contrast
 individually. This increases the dynamic range without having to raise 
the back light.<br />
– Sony also uses a technique in which they “shift phosphor material 
instead of cutting light by color filters”. This allows Sony to use 
“colder” whites (leaning towards the blue spectrum), which tend to look 
brighter.<br />
– More light-efficient LEDs are also used, which would be more of a 
hardware upgrade. Sadly, Sony doesn’t go too deep into this section.<br />

There are many reasons why having higher brightness can improve your 
experience. Sony states that memories and experiences create a bigger 
impression in us when perceived in brighter light. Not to mention, 
screens tend to look much nicer when bright, and outdoor reading is 
substantially improved.</div>

Earlier today we learned the Note 4 will go up for 
pre-order in the UK and US starting tomorrow, September 19. For those 
that are planning to upgrade from an older handset, Samsung has now 
announced its “guaranteed $200 total trade-in” promotion.<br />

In short, if you pre-order the Note 4 between tomorrow and 10/16 
through any carrier or retailer, you’ll be eligible to trade in an 
existing handset for $200, even if the phone isn’t worth that much. As 
you can expect, there’s a bit of a process involved for getting your 
money back for the trade-in, but this could be a heck of a deal for 
those with older handsets like the Galaxy S3 and Note 2. For those with 
newer devices, you’re probably better listing your phone for sale 
online, as you’ll likely get much more than just $200.<br />

Sony Xperia Z3 will get you almost 10hrs screen-on time

             According to a recent battery test, Sony‘s latest 
flagship Xperia Z3 has clocked out at 9 hours and 29 minutes of 
screen-on time. That’s a new record!<br />

The test was run by Phone Arena, who paces phones through a grueling 
test using a web-script that simulates typical real life usage. Without a
 doubt your usage will vary, but the Sony Xperia Z3 is the longest 
lasting phone they’ve ever seen.<br />

Runners up include the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 and Sony’s last generation flagship, the Xperia Z2.<br />

The Sony Xperia Z3 ships with a 3100mAh battery, which is on par 
with, or even a little bit smaller than other flagship devices out 
there. This victory is a sizeable one when you consider that the first 
runner up Ascend Mate 7 is packing a monster 4100mAh battery that 
provides 9 hours and 3 minutes of life. The Z2 is a little less of a 
difference in battery size, with just 100mAh more than the Z3, but it 
clocks in at just 8 hours 10 minutes.<br />

Sony claims you’ll get 2 days out of a charge on your Xperia Z3, they may not be over promising on this one.<br />

Despite all of the financial troubles that Sony’s mobile division is 
facing, it is no surprise that the Xperia Z3 is stacking up to be an 
amazing phone for users. Granted, the short specs list appears to be a 
minor update from the Xperia Z2 and somewhat shy of the LG G3. However, 
you should not go wrong with the Snapdragon 801 SoC, 3GB of RAM, a 
5.2-inch display, and the all too common 20.7MP camera sensor, but with 
updated software.<br />

Best of all, U.S. customers will not be left out in the cold this 
time around – the Xperia Z3, as well as the Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet 
Compact already have listings on the Sony U.S. website and are expected 
to start selling soon.<br />

Can anything else out there beat the Xperia Z3 for battery life? 
Phone Arena teases that they are re-doing their test on the Xperia Z3 
Compact due to disbelief that the first test went so well. I guess that 
means Xperia Z3 shall only hold the crown until the results come in. 
Enjoy Z3, whether you’ve been beat or not, you deserve your moment, or 9
 and a half hours, of glory.<br />

             The Note 4 has already arrived in South Korea and its 
international launch begins in October, making it a great time to be a 
Samsung Note fan. And now the first firmware has gone online as well, 
for model SM-N9106W, a Chinese variant of Samsung’s latest big-screened 
smartphone.<br />

The build is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat and has the build number 
N9106WZNU1ANIF. While the firmware won’t be directly useful without a 
compatible Chinese Note 4 to go with it, these types of firmware ‘leaks’
 are useful for extracting wallpapers, ringtones, APK files and more. If
 you’re not handy with this kind of thing yourself, don’t worry — it’s 
only a matter of time before the Android community jumps in and provides
 you with all sorts of goodies.<br />

 We are still digging through its contents now, so if you don’t want to

  First of all, the design matches up to what we had seen and heard 
about from sources. The centered front camera is the identifier here, 
along with those capacitive navigation buttons. We are also now finding 
specs listed, included an 5.2-inch “ultra high-definition display,” 
“high-capacity long lasting battery,” 21MP rear camera, Qi wireless 
charging, and support for Motorola’s Turbo Charger. Actually, the Turbo 
Charger is included with the device. I would be lying if I didn’t 
mention that the display size was a bit of shocker. Most of us thought 
that we would get a 5.5-inch QHD display, even though some benchmarks 
hinted at 5.2.<br />

  Like last year’s DROID family, we are seeing support for the best

             Sony has long played it safe in the US market, electing 
to sell its handsets either only in unlocked form online or through a 
partnership with T-Mobile. Finally it looks like they are expanding 
their US ambitions a bit, as they have announced the new Xperia Z3v will
 arrive to Big Red’s network later this month!<br />

So how does the Z3v differ from the standard Z3 model heading to 
T-Mobile and other carriers across the globe? The most noticeable 
difference is the body, which for some odd reason lacks the rounded 
edges of the Z3 and looks pretty much like the Xperia Z2. Beyond this, 
there’s also built-in wireless charging and a slightly bigger 3,200 mAh 
battery.<br />

As for the rest, you get a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a 2.5GHz 
Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage with microSD for 
expansion, a 20.7MP camera and Sony’s water proofing tech.<br />

Sony Xperia T3 gets updated to Android 4.4.4

             While many people are tapping the “Check for updates” 
button on their phones in the hope of seeing Android 5.0 Lollipop, Sony 
Xperia T3 owners can at least enjoy a minor update to their smartphones.<br />

Sony has recently released Android 4.4.4 KitKat for the Xperia T3. 
There are a couple of different builds being deployed. Build 18.1.A.2.25
 has been released in various regions for the T3 LTE models D5103 and 
D5106. For the 3G model, D5102, Sony has released build 18.1.A.2.32. 
Both builds upgrade the T3 from Android 4.4.2 KitKat to Android 4.4.4 
KitKat.<br />

As a reminder the Xperia T3 is a mid-range device from Sony. At its 
release it was dubbed the “world’s thinnest 5.3-inch smartphone.” The 
handset is just 7mm thick and features a 5.3-inch HD display with 
Triluminos technology for vibrant colors, and the Bravia Engine 2, for 
enhanced video and image quality. It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm 
Snapdragon processor and comes with 1GB of RAM. There is 8GB of internal
 storage, which is expandable to 32GB via microSD, and a 8MP Exmor RS 
camera. The device also includes NFC which is a nice addition for a 
mid-range device.<br />

             The folks at Rovio are at it again, this time working 
with some robotics to bring you Angry Birds: Transformers, available now
 free to play through the Google Play Store, now available for all 
markets.<br />

Angry Birds: Transformers is a new gameplay strategy for the 
bird-ladden franchise. Instead of flinging birds or building box cars, 
this is a run and gun side-scroller with all of you favorites heroes 
from both worlds. Not to say that the character combinations nor their 
transformations make a whole ton of sense, but it is fun and well 
crafted.<br />

If you are a little tired of the Angry Birds franchise and the 
typical slingshot gameplay, do not hesitate to give Transformers a try. 
The story is fairly similar in nature to previous, you control the 
birds, you attack the little piggies with their physics based structures
 and there are eggs in the mix all while running through short levels 
toward a larger goal. That is about where it ends, the new gameplay 
feels nothing like previous Rovio offerings.<br />

So, run along now, transform into random automobiles, shoot at the 
pigs and see how the “EggSpark” makes a difference in your coin 
collecting adventures.<br />
